Peggy Higgins Obituary

Peggy Higgins, 93, of Hereford, passed away on August 3, 2022, in Dimmitt, Texas. Funeral Services will be held 10:00AM Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church in Hereford with burial following at West Park Cemetery. Arrangements are being made by Parkside Chapel Funeral Home. Peggy was Born November 2, 1928, in White Deer, Texas to Dennis and Thelma Barnard. She spent most of her life in Hereford, graduating from Hereford High School and then attending Texas Tech where she met her husband, Hilton Higgins. They were married at the Methodist Church in Hereford on March 28, 1948. Hilton and Peggy were married for 50 years until his passing in 1998, after a long battle with Hodgkin’s Disease. Hilton’s family was eternally grateful for the loving care and support Peggy gave Hilton during his battle with cancer. The couple lived in the country most of their married life. Hilton ranched and Peggy spent her time caring for their beautiful home, always busy working in the yard, cooking and sewing and volunteering where needed. Peggy was a member of the First United Methodist Church for 88 years. She loved the Lord and loved her church. She was a founding member of the Women’s Auxiliary of King’s Manor Retirement Center and continued her support throughout the years. She also volunteered for the American Cancer Society and was a long-time member of the Bayview Study Club. Throughout the years Hilton and Peggy had many dear friends with whom they created cherished memories. They loved spending time with family and friends at their vacation home in Ruidoso. Some of her dearest friends; Doris Hill, Sue Sims, Betty Lookingbill, and Pat Fisher, will always smile and remember Peggy’s great sense of humor, her laughter, and the good times they all had together Peggy will truly be missed. The family wants to express our deepest appreciation to Julia and David Wagner. We do not know what she or we would have done without them. They have always been on call, any time day or night. Have been to countless doctors’ appointments and ER trips, have fixed anything and everything that needed fixing, delivered yummy food, made at least 100 trips to Dimmitt, kept the sisters informed, and been there with Peggy when she needed family. God Bless Julia and David. Peggy is survived by her sister, Sue Hannon (husband, Joe) of Brawley, California, Kay Brown and Denice Bagshaw of Sierra Vista, Arizona, and Helen Higgins, her sister-in-law, of Hereford. She is also survived by many special nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hilton, her brother-in-law, James Ellis Higgins, her sister-in-law Margaret Higgins London, brother-in-law Walter London, and her parents, Dennis and Thelma Barnard. The family suggests memorials be made to First United Methodist Church, 501 Main St. Hereford, Texas 79045
