Pat grew up in Weston coincidentally the name of her first great great grandson. The oldest of seven kids she was often in charge of her younger siblings and learned how to cook, bake and take care of a house early on in life. It was in 1949 while working at Eaton‘s when a handsome tall coworker from the wrong side of the tracks (Brooklands, Manitoba) would try and catch her eye. After many train rides to Winnipeg Beach and dances, Morris won over his little Pat and they were married on September 16, 1950. What followed was a life not without its battles, but one that would stand the test of time. Filled with love, laughter, hard work and some tears.
Pat raised 4 wonderful children, kept an immaculate household all while working at Eatons, buns master, and cleaning contracts just to name a few. She always had a hot meal on the table when Morris came home from shift work as a Winnipeg police officer, and was known to wrangle the kids out of bed early so she could make the beds. Weekend adventures usually with grandchild in tow when Morris would say “let’s go for a car ride Ma” and you never knew if they would end up in Kenora, or Grand Forks for a burger and chips before heading back.
Pat prides herself on her grandchildren and would Knit a new blanket for every new arrival. She was even known to dress up in hockey gear and play goalie for Justin when he wanted to practice his slap shot at four years of age.
Retirement allowed Pat and Morris to do what they loved best, travel. They spent many years at their trailer in Mesa, Arizona where they had some of the best times of their lives. Losing Morris in 2004 was difficult for Pat but she filled her days reading, playing phase 10 with her family and travelling with Colleen and the girls. She made a cross country road trip to Vegas in 2008, made multiple weekend trips to the states to play bingo, and flew to Vegas more times than can be counted. Her last trip to Vegas was in 2020 shortly after her 90th birthday to be there for the arrival of her first great great grandchild. In her final months, Pat travel to Dauphin to visit Christina and then continued to Elkford, BC where she moved with Oreanna. She always wanted to live in BC and Oreanna made this a reality. Oreanna made it possible for Nana to live on her own until the last six months of her life when she had Nana move in with her. She took care of her until she passed. Nana never spent a day in a long term care facility and for that our family is forever grateful to Oreanna for her immense love and care.
Finally the family would like to thank the staff of the Elk Valley Hospital in Fernie, BC For the excellent care our mother/Nana received from them. So tonight raise a toast to Pat/Mom/Nana, She always like to have “one” drink before bed, if that’s not your thing Nana would simply say whatever ❤️
