Gerald Sims

Gerald "Gary" Sims, 83, Logansport, Indiana, formerly of Muncie, went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, August 2, 2022. Born May 26, 1939, in Delaware County, Indiana, he was the son of the late Thomas and Mattea Sims. On April 7, 1962, in Muncie, Indiana, he was married to Sharon (Williams) Sims, who survives. Gary was a graduate of Burris High School in Muncie. He started his career with McDonald's Restaurants in January 1958, working for the Terhune Organization. Gary had completed all of the training programs offered by McDonald's, including Hamburger University. Because of his success as a Store Manager for many years, Gary was granted a Basic Facility Lease to become an Owner/Operator. Gary and his wife, Sharon, became owner/operators of their first McDonald's Restaurant in Monticello, Indiana on November 1,1978. They acquired a second store in Logansport in August of 1979 and opened a second store in Logansport in July of 1996. Gary retired in November 2000, after forty-three years of service. Gary loved fishing and snowmobiling. While in Muncie, he was very active in the Bus Ministry at his church. He always loved "Hamburger Sundays" when there were 500 children on the buses and he was able to treat them to a lunch at McDonald's. He was also an avid fan of the Indianapolis Colts and the Indiana Pacers. Gary was a member of the Cross at the Crossroads Church in Logansport. Surviving with his wife of 60 years, Sharon Sims, are four children: Dion, Shaun, Jonathan and Andrea (Angel) Sims; four grandchildren, Lucas Sims, Michelle Grauel, Aleyah Sims and Tianna Sims; and several nephews and nieces. In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters. Visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, August 6 at the Cross at the Crossroads, Logansport, with services following at 3 p.m. Bishop Dr. Gregory Elkins will officiate at the service. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 8 at the Gardens of Memory in Muncie, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Gary's memory may do so, if they desire, by making a donation to the Cross at the Crossroads Church; the Ronald McDonald House in Indianapolis; or to the Emmaus Mission Center in Logansport.
