Donita L. Hofer Conaway, 62, of Jesup and formerly of Sumner, died Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, surrounded by loving family, due to complications of a massive stroke. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 5, 2022, from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM at Becker & Son Funeral Home in Sumner. Graveside services will follow at Union Mound Cemetery in Sumner with Pastor Steve Lalk officiating. Refreshments and fellowship will follow the Graveside Service at the Sumner Public Library. Memorials may be made to the family for later designation. Becker & Son Funeral Home in Sumner is assisting Donita’s family. Online condolences may be left at www.beckermilnesrettig.com. Donita Lynnette, daughter of Lloyd and Juanita (Teckenburg) Hofer was born February 1, 1960, in Sumner. Donita was baptized in the Baptist Faith, and received her education in the Sumner Schools, graduating from Sumner High School. Following graduation, she continued her education at N.I.C.C. in Calmar, earning her nursing degree. She was united in marriage with Thomas Shannon II in 1978 in Des Moines. To this union five children were born, Clinton, Sarah, Beth, Joseph, and Mandy. The couple would later divorce. Donita was a nurse, specializing as a mental health nurse, working at M.H.I. in Independence, the Red Cross, and Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo. In 1995, she was united marriage with Shawn Conaway. They were later divorced. Donita lived in the Sumner and rural Westage area for many years, prior to moving to Jesup in the early 1990’s. Donita is at peace, reunited with her daughter, Mandy, and her parents. Donita is survived by her children and their families, Clinton (Melissa) Shannon of Waterloo and their children, Olivia and Krystal Shannon, Sarah (Rodney) Loftus of Grundy Center and their children, Hope, Gage, and Lliam Loftus, Beth (P.J.) Flaucher of Jesup and their children, Harmony Shannon and Arianna Wilson, and Joseph Shannon of Jesup; three siblings, Darwin (Eileen) Hofer of Parkersburg, Debrah (David) Lalk of Westgate, and Deanna (Larry) Luck of Marion; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her grandparents and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Mandy; brother, Darrel Hofer; nephew, Aaron Lalk; and great-nephew, Benaiah Hofer.
