He was born on June 28, 1932, in Caperton, WV, son of the late Ira and Catherine Henley Shumaker. Ray was a 1951 graduate of Fayetteville High School where he received All State Honorable Mention in football and held the scoring record in basketball for over 40 years. He coached little league baseball for 15 years, and midget league basketball and football for 12 years. He played competition basketball in his late fifties, and he enjoyed golfing. He loved his grandkids and great grandkids. He retired from Kaiser Aluminum & Chemical Corp in Ravenswood. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Shirley Shumaker of Ravenswood; sons, Stephen Shumaker of Scott Depot, WV, Brent Shumaker and Tim Shumaker, both of Ravenswood; 2 sisters, Imogene Hambrick of Ripley, WV, and Iris Capelety of Elyria, OH; grandchildren, Tessa, Jared and Michael Shumaker, Chelsie Painter and Meghan Easterly; and great grandchildren, Bryan Lutz and Isaeh Stark. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his oldest son, Michael Ray Shumaker. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2017, at 2:00 pm at Roush Funeral Home in Ravenswood with Pastor Allen Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in Huse Memorial Garden in Fayetteville, WV, at a later date. Friends may visit the family at the funeral home on Saturday, August 19, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
