Staats Dern, 84, departed this life on January 30, 2019, at Camden Clark Medical Center in Parkersburg. She was born on April 12, 1934, the daughter of Harley and Ruth DeLong Staats of Murraysville. She was a homemaker and babysitter to many in her home in Lubeck, WV. After the passing of her husband, she went to live in Parkersburg with her daughter. Most recently, she was a resident of Cedar Grove Assisted Living. Dorothy was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Her hobbies included playing the guitar, home canning, quilting and sewing. She had a love for spending time with family, especially babies and small children. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur Dern; and her oldest brother, Wayne Staats. She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Angela (Larry) Johnson; grandson, Justin Welsh; and great grandchildren, Skarin, Natalie, and Roslyn Welsh, all of Parkersburg; brothers, Edwin Staats and Dana Staats; sister, Violet Anderson; several nieces and nephews; and extended family, Larry Jr., Lynn, Alison, Anthony, and Brennan Johnson. Friends may visit the family at Roush Funeral Home in Ravenswood on Saturday, February 2, 2019, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and one hour prior to service on Sunday. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 3, 2019, at 2:00 pm at Roush Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Brosius officiating. Burial will follow in Ravenswood Cemetery.
