Coen, 90, passed away November 23, 2018, at her home in Ripley. She was born on September 18, 1928, on Trace Fork in Sandyville, WV, a daughter of the late Ezra R. and Vena Belle Hopkins Hinzman. She was the youngest of eight children. Pearl was a Christian and a member of Independence Methodist Church in Sandyville, WV. She was the loving wife of Chester R. Coen and the mother of four children. For many years she stayed home to care for her family including her mother-in-law, Myrtle Jewell Coen. She worked outside the home as a cook at Sandyville Elementary School, Eldercare Nursing Home, and the Jackson County Jail in Ripley. She was well-known for her peanut butter cookies and pineapple upside down cake. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her seven siblings: Robert Glenn, Cecil Paul, Donald Park, Beulah Irene McGraw, Marie Evelyn Asbury, Bernice Emma Snyder, and Herman Lee. Also preceding her in death was a much-loved nephew, Harold Eugene Hinzman, and a son-in-law, Thomas Marlow. She is survived by her four children, Nancy Coen Smith (Larry), Kathy Coen Marlow, Chester David Coen (Hope), and Helen Coen Groves (Bob). She was proud to say she was grandmother to James Michael Utt (Penny), John W. White III, Melissa White Jones, Heather DeQuasie Martin, Stacy Groves Catron, Carrie Groves Christalore, Katrina Groves Wolfe, Jedediah Smith and Molly Marlow Bledsoe. She was blessed to be a "Granny" (great-grandmother) to Savannah and J.D. Utt, Jonathan Warner, Bradley Jones, Kylie Anderson, Lucas (Jacob), Ethan Rollyson, Gage Martin, Max Martin, Brianna Catron, Elizabeth Catron, Hannah Loar, Olivia Wolfe, Kinsey Wolfe, Peyton Wolfe, Colleen Smith and William Smith. She was extremely blessed to be great-great-grandmother to Jocee Naylor and to Gabriel Yonkosky. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, at 2:00 pm at the Independence United Methodist Church in Sandyville with Reverend Jarrod Caltrider officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Sandyville. Friends may visit the family at Roush Funeral Home in Ravenswood from 6:00 to 9:00 pm on Monday, November 26, 2018.
