John Lewis Sullivan

Visitation Location: Roush Funeral Home Visitation Time: Thursday, August 16 (5-8PM) Service Location: Roush Funeral Home Service Time: Friday, August 17 (11AM) John Lewis Sullivan, 84, of Sandyville, went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 13, 2018, following an automobile accident. Lewis attended Tri-County Worship Center in Rockport, and retired from Ames Company as Manager of Plant 1 in 1984, after 30 years of service. He was born in Jackson County, the son of the late Dana and Ina Sullivan. His beloved wife, Barbara and he were married in 1956, and spent 62 happy years together. Lewis and Barbara were instrumental in the planning, and fundraising for the Sandyville Senior Center, working at, and attending the Center for the past 38 years. Lewis loved working on his farm, often stating that "he wanted to leave the place better than he found it". Lewis and Barbara raised 3 children, and then stepped up to help raise 3 grandchildren after a tragedy, because "it was the right thing to do, and a man takes care of his family". Lewis is survived by his wife, Barbara; a son, David (Sherri) of Sandyville; a daughter, Carla (Brian) Underwood of Fountain Inn, SC; 6 grandchildren, Rachel (Travis) Fridenstine of Lancaster, CA, Mandy (Ralph) Washington of Mineral Wells, Jesse Nowery of Sandyville, Kaci (Jared) Bare of Ravenswood, Emily Underwood, and Jo Underwood of Fountain Inn, SC; and 5 great grandchildren, River and Ridge Washington, and Trevor, Aven, and Ryder Fridenstine. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Vera and Chris Nowery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Heart Association, or the Sandyville Senior Center. The funeral service will be held on Friday, August 17, 2018, at 11:00 am at Roush Funeral Home in Ravenswood with Pastors Everett Snyder and Joey Dolpies officiating. Burial will follow in Independence Cemetery in Sandyville. Friends may visit the family at the funeral home on Thursday, August 16, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.
