Tom was born on May 14, 1929, in Murraysville, son of the late Lloyd G. Burdette and Cora Belle Milhoan Burdette. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in March of 1951, and served with the 8156th Quartermaster Unit. Shortly after his assignment to the Korean Conflict, he was captured and wounded by hostile forces and was a POW for some 6 months. In March of 1953, after stays in several military hospitals, PFC Burdette was discharged from the Army and back into the arms of his family. PFC Burdette, after some 38 years from his discharge, was awarded the medals that had been earned for his service, a long time to wait, but very deserving. Mr. Burdette was a farmer who raised cattle. He loved to hunt and raise a big garden. He is survived by his brother, Lloyd E. (Frances) Burdette, Murraysville, WV; sisters, Doris Smith, Belleville, WV, and Norma DeLong, Murraysville, WV; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lewis, and 2 sisters, Janice Walther and Hildreth Salser. Services will be held on Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at 11:00 am at Roush Funeral Home, Ravenswood, WV, with Reverend David Compston officiating. Burial will follow in Ebenezer Baptist Cemetery in Skull Run, WV. Friends may visit the family at the funeral home on Monday, March 7, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Condolences may be expressed to the family at roush94@yahoo.com or on the Roush Funeral Home Facebook Page.
