PAULINE A. MORIARTY Willoughby, Ohio Obituary

PAULINE A. MORIARTY

Pauline A. Moriarty (nee Lessick) age 87, beloved wife of Cornelius; dear mother of Paula (Jack) Santa, Timothy and Mark Moriarty; grandmother of Sean (Leslie) Santa, Ryan Santa, Caroline (T.J.) Gainley and Mackenzie Moriarty; great grandmother of Micah, Clare, Adam and Morgan; sister of Eugene Lessick and the late Joseph, Frances Joy, Edward, Albert, Frank, William and Charles; aunt and great aunt of many. Pauline Lessick Moriarty was a woman who led her family with quiet strength and unbreakable integrity. She had a unique emotional understanding of how to make those around her feel accepted, validated and understood, and that they belonged. The tangible ways in which she seeded love and compassion for her family are so easy to remember: her excited voice at the dinner table, the elegance and pose of the little notes she wrote in greeting cards, her complete and thorough preparation for hosting parties and giving gifts, how she thoughtfully engaged with all the food habits and tastes of those close to her, and her dedication to volunteer and charitable work through her church and other organizations. She knew how to answer anybody’s call for love. Being in her company provoked peace. Her empathic nature rubbed off in a way that is hard to calculate because she presented it with such wise, consistent grace that you could fool yourself into thinking it was universal and ordinary and not just found in the most remarkable among us. Pauline knew how relationships function and shared that wisdom through advice drawn with kindness and compassion. She was a soother, caretaker, and guardian to her family. Pauline offered the world a radiant sense of humor. She climbed trees while drunk at parties, remembered all inside jokes, loved to gamble, play cards and LeftRightCenter, spent time at Tippy Canoe with her husband Cornelius in Smock, and protected her unflappable hairstyle in a rain bonnet, even when it was just sprinkling out. Pauline passed away Aug. 2, 2022. Mass of Christian Burial Saturday Aug. 6 at 10 AM at St. Bede the Venerable Church, 9114 Lake Shore Blvd. in Mentor. Entombment at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens in Chesterland. Family will receive friends at Brickman Bros. Funeral Home, 37433 Euclid Ave.., (Willoughby), Friday 4-7 PM. (MASKS ARE HIGHLY ENCOURAGED AT VISITATION AND MASS). In lieu of flowers, contributions to St. Bede Church - Garden Ministry would be appreciated.
