James Anthony Mines

James Anthony Tony Mines, 62, of Dayton, passed away at 11:40 PM, Sunday, January 22, 2017 at his home. He was born in Harrisonburg on December 13, 1954, and was a son of Helen Louise (Moates) Mines, of Dayton and the late James Linwood Mines. Tony was very skilled in construction. He was a graduate of Turner Ashby High School, class of 1973. Tony was an avid fan of the Clover Hill Bucks and was the caretaker of the field for several years. He enjoyed riding on Scooter Pearl and enjoyed camping and water skiing. Surviving in addition to his mother are four children, Chad Anthony Mines of Dayton, Karah M. Johnson and husband Michael, of Mt. Crawford, Shaunna D. Young and husband Eric, of Waynesboro, and James W. Mines and wife Bev, of Fincastle; four sisters, Jeanne L. Reedy and husband Claude, of Doe Hill, Pat Gray and husband Bill, of Bridgewater, Jackie L. Slye and husband Karl, of Rockingham and Tammy F. Mongold and husband Bobbie, of Rockingham; a brother, Tim Mines and wife Janet, of Singers Glen. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Kaylee Marie Mines, Nessah Johnson, Seth Johnson, Danielle Young, Eric Young, II, Bailey Mines, Evan Mines, and Karly Mines. A memorial service will be held at Johnson Funeral Service Chapel in Bridgewater, at 3:00 PM on Saturday, January 28, 2017 with Rev. Karl Slye officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Johnson Funeral Service PO Box 41 Bridgewater, VA 22812 to help with funeral expenses.
