Ruthie Tweedt

Ruthie Tweedt, age 93, of Council Bluffs went to be with Her Lord & Savior on July 31, 2022. She was born on June 22, 1929 in Des Moines, Iowa. Ruthie graduated from North High School in 1948. She served as a Majorette during her junior and senior years. Following high school, she worked at McGladrey, Hansen, Dunn and Company, an accounting firm in Des Moines, for 4 years. She married M. Larry Tweedt from Slater, Iowa in 1952 and shortly thereafter they moved to Waterloo, Iowa. Ruthie worked as a Secretary for the Pontiac Dealer in town while her husband finished his studies at Iowa State Teachers College. In 1953, Ruth and Larry moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa. Ruthie worked for the Weldon International Dealer until their first child was born in 1954. Her 3 sons kept her very busy along with Cub Scouts, coaching Little League Baseball, and teaching Sunday School at Emmanuel Lutheran Church for 16 years. In 1957, Ruthie was one of 100 housewives from across the country invited to attend a “Congress on Better Living” in Washington, D.C. Ruthie belonged to various organizations; Beta Sigma Phi Social Sorority, Pioneer Garden Club, and Brush and Pellet China Painters, along with her duties as a Homemaker. She loved to paint and dress porcelain dolls of which she had a room devoted to the display of more than five hundred dolls. Ruthie also taught classes in China, porcelain and ceramic painting. She served as Secretary and Partner in her husbands’ Construction Company, as well as being a devoted wife and mother. Ruthie was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. William Pewick; 3 sisters, and 1 brother. Ruthie is survived by her husband of 70 years, Larry; 3 sons and their spouses, Steve and Jewell, Daniel and Julie, and Douglas and Sheri; 8 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home (1221 North 16th Street) on Thursday, August 4, 2022. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00pm at Southview Bible Church (135 Bennett Ave.) on Friday, August 5, 2022. Interment will be at Ridgewood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Southview Bible Church.
