Betty Sue McClanahan Obituary

Betty Sue McClanahan (nee Lawson), age 88, of Greendale, WI, passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2022. Betty was born on January 25, 1934 in the family house in Dry Ridge, KY to Roy and Mary Lawson. Betty, the youngest of 10 children, was raised in a family filled with love. She enjoyed learning, math being her favorite subject, and graduated valedictorian of her class at Mason High School. Betty met and married the love of her life, Howard McClanahan, on August 27, 1955 in Piner, KY. Howard’s job for the Veterans Administration took them to various locations around the United States, finally landing in Greendale, WI where they raised their sons Patrick, Robert, and David. During this time Betty used her math skills as a bookkeeper and devoted herself to raising her three sons. Eventually, when grandchildren came into the picture, Betty’s (Grandma’s) Sunday lunches, after church, became a tradition. Faith and family were certainly the cornerstones of her character. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Ray McClanahan, and son, Patrick McClanahan; as well as her parents, Roy and Mary Lawson, brother Roy Lawson, and sisters Julie Cash, Florence Lucas, Mabel Simpson, and Ella Simpson. Betty is survived by her sons Robert McClanahan and David (DeAnn) McClanahan; her grandchildren, Jake (Greta) McClanahan, Trent McClanahan, Sean McClanahan, Ethan (Kelly) McClanahan, Kaitlin (Aaron) Unger, Jarett McClanahan, Jennifer McClanahan; sisters, Beulah (Hill) True, Bernice Bennett, Sylvia (Cook) Shetler, Odella Delaney, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will take place at Riverglen Christian Church, S31 W30601 Sunset Dr., Waukesha, WI on Friday, August 26, 2022 at 7 p.m. Visitation hours will precede the service from 5:30 -7 p.m. Betty will be interred at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery next to her husband. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Riverglen Christian Church.
