MarthaJane Marie Johnson Obituary

MarthaJane Marie Wright-Johnson, age 80, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 1, 2022, surrounded by her children. She was born on Wednesday, March 25, 1942, to Eunice and Walden Wright. She attended National Lewis University and obtained a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education. In 1963, she married the love of her life our beloved, Ralph Loren Johnson, in a private ceremony in Lincolnwood, Illinois. Their bountiful union was blessed with seven children; Jane Marie, Jacqueline Marie (Mike), Martha Marie, William Carl, the late Anna Marie, Carolyn Anne, Jill Lynn; 13 grandchildren, Bradley, Gary, Jessica, TommiLea, Ron, Steven, Billy, Ryan, Anita, Lauren, Jaxson, Robert James IV (RJ), Audrianna; 13 great-grandchildren, Joey, Jayson, Brooklynn, Sasha, Jennica, Lex, Lily, Brennan, Charlotte, Isaiah, Ziggy, Zyon, Maddox. MarthaJane created fashionable works of art for her eldest children. They often could be seen sporting bellbottoms, halter tops, and leg warmers all from her dedicated artistry. Ralph and MarthaJane along with their seven children, could grow most anything on their farm. They raised pigs and chickens, and a garden full of every vegetable you could imagine. MJ would spend hours canning, freezing and putting up the harvest that she and Ralph attended to on the farm. MarthaJane enjoyed baking and cooking which included her steaks to be well done, she always served a well-balanced meal. Once the Johnson clan grew up and left home, she was free to spend her time enjoying other activities, such as working at the former or Rons Food Market in Ashton, and the former Blackhawk State Bank in Ashton and Rochelle. After retirement she spent countless hours knitting, crocheting, cross stitching and latch-work which she shared with her entire family. Her pieces can be found as far east as New York all the way to the California coast. She always made sure to incorporate their favorite color in the pieces she made. Her favorite color was purple, she loved chocolate covered orange peels and salted caramel vodka mixed with 7Up. MJ also enjoyed going to Bingo and watching tv shows like Mary Tyler Moore and Dick Van Dyke. She had a vast love of jewelry and enjoyed her morning pastries with a nice, hot cup of tea to dip them in was second to none. Despite having had some days that were not so easy, MJ leaves behind a mark on the earth in a group of people who know what love is. Friends and neighbors may meet and greet the family on Friday, August 5, 2022, from 11:00 A.M. until the 12:00 P.M. funeral service at Thompson Spring Grove Funeral Home, 8103 Wilmot Road, Spring Grove, IL. 60081.
