Tsui Chi Kao Dorfman Princeton, New Jersey Obituary

Tsui Chi Kao Dorfman

Tsui Chi, who was a strong and loving person with a fiercely independent spirit, passed away on Monday, August 1. Her beloved husband, David Dorfman, and their two daughters, Shoshanna and Ariella, were at her side at their home in Princeton, NJ, as she passed from this world into the next.

Demonstrating great courage throughout her life, Tsui Chi grew up in a rural village in Taiwan, the middle daughter in her family with a brother and two sisters. As a young woman, she ran away to America to pursue her education and career dreams. She graduated from Baruch College with a bachelor of arts degree in accounting, and was a senior manager and tax accountant for Bristol Myers Squibb. She was so successful in her career that her family in Taiwan nicknamed her “America.” Tsui Chi made the moniker more than a nickname when she became a citizen of the United States in 2006.

She was also a citizen of the world, with a life ever-expanding beyond her origins. She ran marathons, traveled to the pyramids in Egypt, visited the Western Wall, Golan Heights, and climbed Masada. She spoke four languages, learned how to make fusion Jewish-Asian cuisine, and was a gifted artist. Yet home was ever in her heart: she loved to tend the roses in her garden and to shop for vegetables at the Princeton Farmer’s Market, where the bitter melon and mushrooms reminded her of Taiwan.

Tsui Chi participated in a clinical trial with MSKCC, helping to advance medical science. She also created a blog, A Mom With Cancer that documented her cancer journey with bravery and honesty.

Memorial service will be held at 11am on Friday, August 5, 2022 at The Mather-Hodge Funeral Home, 40 Vandeventer Ave., Princeton, NJ 08542.

Memorial donations can made to Cancer Athletics with donations mailed to Mather-Hodge Funeral Home, 40 Vandeventer Ave., Princeton, NJ 08542 or to another charity of your choice with donations sent directly to the charity.

Tsui was gentle and kind. I will always remember her working so hard and never complained. She always took the time at work to say "Good Night" each and every day. I will miss Tsui. She was a strong light in my life.
