Lawrence Edward (Larry or Butch) Laurion, Jr. Obituary

On Friday, July 29, 2022, Lawrence Edward (Larry or Butch) Laurion, Jr. passed away at the age of 82. Larry was born into a long line of military tradition and grew up an Army Brat. He attended 10 different schools from first – twelfth grade, the most significant being the two years he spent at Kubasaki High School in Okinawa. In 1959 he joined the Air Force and during his time there became a Chinese language specialist earning a certificate from Yale University. After completing his service in 1965 he continued his studies at Georgetown University. He had a long career as a pension specialist, primarily with Carday Associates and Segal Company. Larry also enjoyed participation in various community and civic organizations. He was a DC MPD Reserve Police Officer for 20 years, a Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus, and an officer and active member of the Okinawa Kai club. He was a decades-long season ticket holder for the Washington then-Redskins, Georgetown Hoyas basketball, Arena Stage, and the National Symphony Orchestra. If he was invited to a party he could always be counted on to bring a few bottles or a case of wine, and M&Ms for the all the kids. Larry was preceded in death by his father (Larry Pop), his mother (Mummy Peg), both of his siblings (Pick and Beth), and his companion of 30 years (Rosita). He is survived by his three children (Marie Isabel Laurion, Lawrence Edward Laurion, III and Eric Evaristo Laurion), his “other daughter” (Monica “Flott” Menzies), several loving cousins, his “Latin Posse” friends and the extended Flott family. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 6 at Our Lady of Victory on MacArthur Blvd at 11 am with visitation beginning at 10 am. Donations may be sent in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Association. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
