Charles Frederick "Chuck" Hinrichs Obituary

Charles "Chuck" Frederick Hinrichs of Hopkinsville passed away on Monday, August 1, 2022 at the age of 92. He died of natural causes, surrounded by family Graveside services will be held at Kentucky Veteran’s Cemetery West Thursday, August 4, 2022 at 11:00a.m. Visitation will be Wednesday. August 3, 2022 from 4:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. at the funeral home. Hughart, Beard & Giles Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Born on June 11, 1930 to Virginia and Emil Hinrichs, Chuck grew up with his two brothers, Paul and Lou in San Fransico, CA and later Denver, CO. He met his future wife, Shirley Bolander, before shipping off to serve as an Equipment Specialist in the Korean War. The two were married shortly after his service concluded in 1953, and shared 68 years of marriage and 4 children. Chuck attended the Colorado School of Mines where he received Masters of Geology, and later pursued a successful career as Chemical Engineer. Chuck was a proud member of the Oklahoma Jaycees, serving as the club's president in the 1960's. It was through his involvement with the Jaycees that he met his idol, Ronald Reagan, a moment he considered to be one of the greatest of his life. An avid photographer, Chuck enjoyed capturing moments big and small -from crowded family gatherings to quiet, snowy landscapes. He was a life-long train enthusiast and combined his passions to have several photographs successfully published in national railroad magazines. He also loved crossword puzzles and a good Manhattan. Chuck was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, and son, Brian. He is survived by three children Debi Anderton, Gretchen Edwards, and Roger Hinrichs all of Hopkinsville, as well as 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Chuck’s name be made to Pennyroyal Hospice.
