Maryrose Jordan Baiano, 93, a fifty year resident of Dobbs Ferry, peacefully passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2013. Maryrose was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, to Joseph Jordan and Gertrude O'Connell Jordan. She graduated from Lawrence High School and then earned her Bachelors of Science Degree in Home Economics/Foods and Nutrition from Boston University. In a joint program of Simmons College and Harvard University Class of 1949, she earned her Master of Science Degree in Public Health Nutrition. Part of this program included field experience with the Chicago Health Department. This led to a position as a staff nutritionist with the Chicago Health Department. In 1952, she was recruited by the Harvard School of Public Health for a project developing a manual 'Nutrition Practices - A Guide for Public Health Administrators'. Through a grant later in that year, Maryrose was hired by the Westchester County Dept. of Health to conduct a demonstration program on the need for nutrition services. This led to her becoming the Director of the Bureau of Community Nutrition Services at the Health Dept. She remained as Director until her retirement in 1986. In 1954, she married Charles Baiano, who predeceased her in 2007. Charlie, a member of the Professional Grounds Management Assn., and Maryrose, a member of the American Public Health Assn., traveled together to many conventions around the country. After retiring, they continued and expanded their traveling, including a trip to Alaska, traveling across Canada by train, and several trips to Europe. Maryrose is survived by her daughter Catherine of Brooklyn, NY, and her son Christopher of Poughkeepsie, NY. Also surviving is her identical twin Rosemary David, of Huntington, West Virginia; sister-in-law Anna Mobilia of Dobbs Ferry; and numerous nieces and nephews. Maryrose moved to the Fountains at Millbrook, Dutchess County, in 2007. She enjoyed visits and outings with her son Chris, especially when he brought along his dog, Bella. The extended visits by her daughter Cathy made all the holidays that much more special. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory can be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or the ASPCA. Mass of the Resurrection 9:30 am, Friday, May 3, at Sacred Heart Church, Dobbs Ferry. Visiting 7-9 pm Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9 pm Thursday at Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home, 64 Ashford Avenue, Dobbs Ferry.
