John Philip Balem
John Philip Balem, 67, of the Bronx passed away on June 5, 2019. Born an raised in New York City, he was the son of the late William and Doris Balem. John was a paramedic for many years and worked for St. Vincent's Hospital in Manhattan. He heroically helped those in desperate need during the September 11 attacks. John ultimately gave his life for them when he succumbed to illness due to the attacks. He was a devoted gentleman, who took great pride in being there for others. John will be missed and remembered always. He is survived by his son Christopher (Kelly) Balem, daughter Tricia (George Longworth) Alfini and by his grandchildren Joseph, Peter, Marc and Lindsey. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Rosary Hill Home, 600 Linda Ave, Hawthorne, NY 10532. Mass of the Resurrection 9:30am Saturday St. Augustine R. C. Church, Ossining.
