Edith Leila Starr Hausman, age 89, died Nov 13, 2012 at Sky View Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Croton-on-Hudson, NY. Edith was born January 21, 1923 in the Bronx to Charles and Rebecca Reiss Starr, and was married to Herbert Lewis Hausman on January 10, 1943 in Washington, D.C., where she was one of the first two women to work in the newly opened Pentagon. Partners from their teen years, together they raised their family in Ardsley, NY, enjoyed Broadway and off Broadway shows with family and friends and volunteered with the local library and synagogue. Edith is predeceased by her husband in 1999, her sister Ruth Salwen and her brother Robert Starr. She is survived by her two sons: Edward Benjamin Hausman of Pompton Plains, NJ and Richard Hausman of Ann Arbor, MI and her daughter Deborah Charles Klein of Pawling, NY, two beloved granddaughters: Saranee Hausman of Wharton, NJ and Elizabeth Klein of Pawling, NY, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Nov 15, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Sharon Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to send a memorial donation is asked to consider one of the following: Ardsley Public Library, 9 American Legion Drive, Ardsley, NY 10502, Hospice Care of Westchester, 540 White Plains Rd. Ste 300, Tarrytown, NY 10591, National Parkinson Foundation, Gift Processing Center PO Box 5018 Hagerstown, MD 21741-5018 Shiva will be observed at her daughter's home.
