P.R. Srinivasan, Professor Emeritus of Biochemistry at Columbia University passed away on October 23, 2012. He was 84 years old. Srini came to the USA from India in 1953 on a post-doctoral Fullbright scholarship. He remained with the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics at Columbia University for almost 60 years. Among other appointments and honors, he served as Acting Chairman from 1974-1977. After retiring and until two years ago, he continued to teach his graduate seminar at the College of Physicians and Surgeons. He was also an active member of the New York Academy of Sciences, where he served in various positions, including President in 1980.
Srini was a long-time resident of Hastings-on-Hudson, NY and was very involved with the Temple Beth Shalom community.
He will be missed by his wife, Louise; son Andre and wife Lynne; daughter Gita and husband Somashekar, their children Azadi and Aman; step-daughter Eva; brother Ramaswamy and sister Jeyalakshmi.
Srini will be remembered as a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, teacher, advisor, and friend.
Contributions in Srini's name will be collected by Temple Beth Shalom and distributed to his preferred organizations in the US and India.
