Lewis B. Shrady Obituary

Lewis "Chris" B. Shrady, 74, passed away on June 16, 2011 at his Irvington residence. Born April 10, 1937, son of Francis Lewis and Anna Browning Nisbet Shrady. Lewis attended Irvington Public Schools thru 9th grade, and then transferred to Christ Church School in Virginia in 1955. He later attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute from 1955-1959 and received his bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. He first started his career at Bell Labs in New Jersey, he then worked for Stromberg-Carlson in Rochester, NY, and finished his career with Timex Bendix Allied Signal, where he lead a team which resulted in the development of the 1st Quartz Crystal Watch. Lewis also worked on the development of Gyro components for the US Space Program. Lewis was a life long resident of Irvington with an active interest in the village. He even updated the current computer system at the Irvington Police Department. Lewis was also an active member of South Presbyterian Church in Dobbs Ferry, as well as the organ committee. He traveled extensively due to his involvement with the organ committee, including numerous church organ tours. Lewis' lifelong interest was his love for classical music, so much so, he could tell a radio station that a turntable or tape was too slow because of his perfect pitch. Lewis also had a horticultural interests, including saving the American Chestnut Tree. Family gatherings were his true passion and visits around New England for holidays and celebrations were always close to his heart. His company was treasured and will be sorely missed by those who he encountered. Surviving are his brother, Theodore Shrady of Orleans, MA, cousins on his mother's side: Garth, Rand, Polly Streb, and Martha Nacke, as well as many nieces and nephews. Memorial Service will be held 10AM Monday at the South Presbyterian Church in Dobbs Ferry.
