Avrom Zaritsky Obituary

Avrom Zaritsky, formerly of Dobbs Ferry died Tuesday, December 29 at age 80 in his home in Miami Beach, Florida. He was born in New York City, the son of Chaim and Libby Zaritsky Avrom earned a Bachelor's degree Magna Cum Laude from Brandeis University. He then completed two Master's degrees - one in International Relations from Yale University where he completed requirements for a Ph.D degree and a second from Columbia University's School of Journalism. After that he worked as a writer for Newsweek magazine and then for 35 years for NBC TV News. For his last years he was a producer for Dateline NBC retiring in 2000. Avrom was a proud loving husband and father. He was married to Joyce Ship Zaritsky for 52 years and had two children Joshua and Eve, both of whom graduated from Dobbs Ferry High School and then went on to pursue professional degrees. He lived in Dobbs Ferry for more than 40 years loving every minute of it. Whenever he traveled and returned home, he would say, "This is a great place to live" He is also survived by his son-in-law Matt Hill, his daughter-in-law, Karie Zaritsky and four wonderful grandchildren: Sarah, Ella, Eleanor and Esther. He was a member of Temple Beth Shalom in Hastings for 35 years. In 1994 he was awarded an Emmy award for a documentary he produced, "Angel of Belsen." He was predeceased by his sister, Maxine Todres. Funeral service Sunday 11:00 am Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home. Donations may be made to the Michael J. Fox Parkinson's Foundation for Parkinson's Research in his name.
