Nora Stiefel

Nora Stiefel passed away on August 10 at the age of 87 after fighting Parkinson's for 20 years. She battled the disease the same way she lived her life, with grace, dignity, humor and a quiet inner strength. Nora-Meyer Udewald was born in 1925 in Hamburg Germany and was educated in Belgium. At the age of 17, Nora was arrested by the Nazis and sent to Auschwitz for 3 years. Her smarts, courage and incredible luck enabled her to survive. After the war she went to Cuba and settled in New York where she married Harry Stiefel and began a 50 year love story. They lived in Briarwood Queens with their son Lewis before moving to Ardsley in 2004. Nora who was fluent in German. French, Dutch, Spanish and English worked at various companies as a translator and secretary. She was an incredible woman who deeply loved her family and friends and was loved as much by her surviving son Lewis, his wife Judy and granddaughter Amy.If you would like to make a donation in Nora's name please go to the website for the Michael J.
