Peter Dyer Dougherty of Hastings-on-Hudson passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, October 12 at age 59. In addition to being a loving and devoted father, son and brother, Peter is best known for his nearly twenty years at MTV where he rose to the rank of Senior Vice-President, Creative Director for MTV Europe. Throughout his life he remained passionate about music and is remembered as the co-creator of Yo! MTV Raps, as the director of the classic music video "Fairytale of New York," and for his collaborations with some of the best known names in rock and hip-hop. Peter was devoted to family and to his friends, whom he gathered in droves. He loved his adopted hometown of Hastings and had the great pleasure of raising his children there. First and foremost a father, he'd list his children as the greatest of his many accomplishments. Gregarious and intensely interested the world, culture and literature, Peter maintained a strong identity and pride as an Irish-American and native New Yorker, as he was endlessly devoted to Ireland and New York City. Peter son of Philip H. Dougherty deceased and Dorothy Patt Dougherty and is survived by his children Ciarn and Nia, his brother Paul, sister Margaret and the mother of Ciarn and Nia, Clare Williams.
