Frederick W. Calaicone

Frederick W. "Fritz" Calaicone, 81 of Ardsley passed away on July 19, 2015. Born and raised in the Bronx, he was the son of the late Frederico and Edna Calaicone. He was an avid baseball player and played in the minor leagues for the NY Yankees and the Chicago Cubs. On July 24, 1965, Fred married his beloved Francine Mirabella at Holy Cross Church in the Bronx. Fred was a firefighter for the FDNY from 1964 to 1984. He worked on Ladder 29 in the south Bronx and Ladder 52 in Riverdale. He later became the Fire Commissioner for the Greenburgh Fire Department. Fred coached baseball and football at Cardinal Spellman High School for 13 years. He then became the head baseball coach at Pace University. Fred was very passionate about everything he set his mind to. He was a resilient, courageous and kind man who was loved by many and will be greatly missed. Fred is survived by his wife Francine, his son Frederick J. and his wife Julie, daughters Christine and her husband Brad Chenard and Linda and her husband Dominic Troncone. As well as his grandchildren Nicolina, Ricky, Anna, Steven and Anthony. He is also survived by his sister Olive Quaranta. . Visitations are Thursday and Friday 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home. Mass of the Resurrection is Saturday 10am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Ardsley.
