Flora Colombo Benza Obituary

Flora Colombo Benza was born in the Arthur Avenue section of the Bronx on January 5, 1927 to Angelo and Chiara Colombo. She was schooled in the Bronx and Manhattan and had her first job working for Bill Willson when he started Alcoholics Anonymous as one of his secretaries in 1946. In 1950, she married Philip Benza and had one daughter, Donna Benza Nava. She became an active volunteer and church member at St. Mary's parish on Carpenter Avenue in Bronx, NY., and was appointed secretary to the principal of it's school. There she worked for 40 years, as well as a major fundraiser, founder and President of the Mother's Guild, and president of the Altar and Rosary Society. She moved to Dobbs Ferry, New York in 1993 and was a member of Our Lady of Pompeii Church and it's Altar Guild. Her husband Philip predeceased her as well as her 3 brothers, Chris, Antonio, Joe, and Frank. She is survived by her daughter Donna Nava, son in law Gary Nava, and granddaughters, Carissa and Stefanie Nava. Her beloved granddaughter Tiffany Nava passed away in 2003. A Memorial Mass at Our Lady of Pompeii Church in Dobbs Ferry will be on Friday, May 15, 2015 at 9:30.
