Kenneth Engelhardt Obituary

Kenneth Engelhardt died at home on the evening of March 7th, 2009. With him at the time of death was his wife, Roberta Engelhardt. Kenneth , a great athlete, was 85 and had been suffering from lymphoma. Kenneth was born in Hoboken, New Jersey. He attended NY Military Academy and joined the Army at the age of 17. He served his country as one of the youngest members of the infantry throughout WWII. Once the war was over, he played minor league baseball before returning to NY to join the family business, Gray Line Tours of New York. In 1970 he became the President of Gray Line and Director of the NY Visitors and Convention Bureau. In 1982 he was elected Chairman of the Board of Gray Line. Although he was a passionate New Yorker who knew the city inside and out, he lived for the last 22 years of his life in Hastings on Hudson , NY. A stellar tennis player, he was known to play and beat men half his age in matches that could last all afternoon. Eventually he became president of the Home Owners Association of St. Andrews. He was always well liked and had many dear and significant friends. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Roberta Engelhardt, his children Vicki Lambert, Philip Engelhardt, Linda Engelhardt, Marci Ellacott, his sister Thelma Leaton his 2 step- daughters, Nancy Doyne and Elizabeth Doyne, 15 beloved grandchildren, and one delightful great- grandchild, Logan.
