Hyman I. Shakin, 95 of Rye Brook, NY formerly of Dobbs Ferry, NY died on May 8, 2012. He was born in the Bronx the son of Morris and Ethel Shakin. Hyman served in the United States Army in the 9th Infantry. Hyman received two Purple Hearts and carried the first American Flag into Algeria. A member of the Jewish War Veterans, Disabled American Veterans and former member of the Greenburgh Hebrew Center. Hyman was the owner of Window Fashions located in White Plains, NY for over 40 years. He was an avid gardener and fisherman. He met his beloved wife Mae while in the hospital in Ft. Devans. Mae was in the USO. They met while playing cards. They were married on April 26, 1945. She died on January 12, 1999. He is survived by his daughters Susan and her husband Allan Miller and Debra Epstein her fianc Bill MacLoon, 5 grandchildren Eileen Kevin Field, Lauren Howard Cogan, David Jillian Miller, Joseph Epstein and Jayme Epstein, 8 great-grandchildren and a sister Rose Mandel. Predeceased by 2 sisters and 1 brother. Shiva immediately following interment at Sharon Gardens at the home of Sue and Allan Miller. Donations in his memory to the Jewish War Veterans or Hadassah would be appreciated. Funeral Service 12 noon Thursday, May 10, 2012, Edwards Dowdle Funeral Home.
