Donald W. Seus Obituary

Donald W. Seus, 93 of Irvington, NY passed away on December 14, 2014. He was proud to call Irvington his home for his entire life. He was the only child of Edna and August Seus. He attended Irvington public schools, at the time kindergarten through 12th grade classes were all held in the Main Street School. He went on to Syracuse University, graduating in 1943. Immediately upon graduation he joined the Army, while stationed in Scotland he met his future wife. Having free time on a Sunday afternoon he decided to go to the putting green in Prestwick. Janet Netta Barbour was there that afternoon with her parents. Seeing the young soldier alone, Netta's mother invited him to join them for tea at their house, in the hopes that maybe someone would be kind to her son who was serving overseas with the RAF. After several visits to Netta's home, Don and Netta fell in love. They corresponded when Don was reassigned to bases in England and France and after he returned home to Irvington. Netta travelled to the US on a war bride ship in February 1947 and they were married in the Irvington Presbyterian Church in April 1947. They continued to live in the house that he had grown up in for their entire married life. Don worked for the Atlantic Mutual Insurance company from 1946 - 1979 and for the Home Insurance Company from 1979 - 1984 as an underwriter. He worked for the village of Irvington as a school crossing guard and parking enforcement official from 1984 - 1988 when he decided it was time to retire and spend more time playing golf. He and Netta loved spending time in the Catskills and exploring the Hudson Valley. He continued to be an avid Syracuse Orange sports fan his entire life. He was a member of the Irvington Kiwanis Club. He was honored to represent Irvington in the Westchester County Senior Citizen Hall of Fame. He enjoyed taking part in the activities at the Irvington Senior Center and especially enjoyed his high school reunions and getting in touch with his former classmates. Don is survived by his beloved wife Netta and his two children Thomas Sheila in Oreland, PA and Audrey Gillespie Bryan in Fort Washington, PA. Memorial service 1:00 p.m. Monday December 22nd at the Irvington Presbyterian Church 25 North Broadway, Irvington NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Don's memory to the Irvington Senior Center 29 Bridge St Irvington, NY 10533 or the Irvington Volunteer Ambulance Corps 80 Main Street Irvington, NY 10533.
