Alden "Dutch" Holsinger Obituary

Alden "Dutch" Holsinger, 73, of Hastings-on-Hudson died Sunday, December 14, 2014. He was born in Chicago, Illinois to Eleanor and Alden Holsinger, Sr. Dutch was married to Judith Audet on November 30, 1963 in Delaware. Dutch graduated from the University of Delaware, where he held a 25-year record in High Diving. He then obtained a Masters in Management Science from Lehigh University and completed the Doctoral Candidate Program in Business Administration at NYU. Right out of college, Dutch went to work for Mobil Oil Company as a Senior Sales Engineer out of Erie, PA. He then enjoyed a successful military career as a 1st Lieutenant in the US Army, Corps of Engineers, where he finished 2nd of 400 in his training at Officer Candidate School. Due to his military accomplishments and engineering background, Dutch was pursued and recruited by the C.I.A. However, he chose instead to join the staff at Baruch College in NYC, as a Business Management Professor for the graduate program. He very much enjoyed teaching the students and achieved the "Teacher of the Year" several times. Dutch had many passions in life; the biggest of all were his children and grandchildren. He could often be found playing with the grandchildren as if he was one of them - whether he was on his hands and knees crashing matchbox cars with them or was attempting to compete with them in sports - he always found that inner child! Dutch's other passions included music, reading, philosophy and the eternal quest to educate the masses on whatever topic he was currently endorsing. Dutch was a real character and a truly unique individual. His sense of humor and unpredictable antics kept us laughing throughout the years. Although he enjoyed entertaining his public, he also had a very humane, compassionate and ethical view of life, in which he enjoyed helping anyone he encountered. His favorite quote and life-lived motto was, "always leave a place better than you found it." Most people would say that Dutch left their lives in a better place than he found them, and for that, we are eternally grateful. Surviving are his children, Laura Scott, Scott Ali, his former wife Judith, and 4 loving grandchildren, Caitlyn, Ryan, Adam and Brooke. Visiting is Sunday, December 21, 2-4 pm & 7-9 pm at Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home, Dobbs Ferry. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Wounded Warriors.
