Maria "Menica" Lanzallotto Obituary

Maria "Menica" Lanzallotto, a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, great aunt, friend and long-time resident of Dobbs Ferry, NY passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2020. Menica passed away peacefully in her sleep, taking her last breath after a seven month battle with cancer. Her final days were spent being comforted at Calvary Hospital surrounded by family and friends that Menica had touched the lives of and made everlasting memories with over the years. She was born in a small, rural village in Torre di Ruggiero in the province of Catanzaro in Calabria, Italy on February 2, 1949 to Domenico Sanzo and Maria Concetta Iozzo. She was raised and grew up in Calabria with her 11 siblings. Menica immigrated to America in the Spring of 1967 at the age 18 and has lived in Dobbs Ferry ever since. Menica raised her three children as a widow for the past 32 years, instilling the values of her late husband upon them. She built a life of love, compassion, generosity and dedication to her children and family. She was blessed to be surrounded by her sisters and brothers who she was lucky to call her best friends. Even during her last days, she fulfilled her obligation as the baby sister to make sure all of her elder sisters were still taken care of. Menica's happiest moments were her weekend trips upstate, making homemade bread and tending to her vegetable garden. She will never be forgotten. May she Rest In Peace as she is reunited with her one true love "Tony" in heavenly bliss. She is survived by her three children, Lisa O'Callaghan, Anthony "Junior" Lanzallotto and Jennifer Lanzallotto, her son-in-law David O'Callaghan and precious granddaughter Sofia Antonia O'Callaghan, in addition to her 8 surviving siblings, 14 nieces and nephews, and 20 great nieces and nephews. Menica was preceded in death by her late husband Antonio "Tony" Nicola Lanzallotto, her parents, 2 brothers, 2 brother-in laws and 1 great nephew.
