Mrs Jeannette L. Santoliquido Mayleas

Jeannette Santoliquido Mayleas,89. long time educator and Westchester County resident, died Friday, July 27 in her home in Hastings surrounded by her family. Mrs. Mayleas was born August 11, 1928 to Julia and Raphael Santoliquido in the Bronx, New York. She attended Cathedral High School followed by Hunter College where she earned a Masters Degree in Education. She taught French and Spanish in NYC schools, including Henry Bruckner JHS PS 101 and was a member of the UFT for 60 years. On April 17, 1949 she was engaged to Maurice Mayleas and they married the following year on September 17, 1950. The couple had four children and eventually moved to Ardsley, NY in 1972. The family enjoyed spending time and making many happy memories at their summer home in Hampton Bays on Long Island. She moved to Hastings, NY in 2001 where she was a very active member of St. Matthew's RC Church and a member of the Dobbs Ferry Women's Club, where she was an avid Maj Jong player. Mrs. Mayleas was preceded in death by beloved husband Maurice Mayleas and granddaughter Beth Young. She is survived by her children, Julie (Robert) Grieve, Christine (Michael) Fico Pistorino, Janine (Stephen) McCarthy and Nicholas Mayleas, She is grandmother to six and great-grandmother to six. Mrs. Mayleas wake will be at Edwards Dowdle Funeral Home in Dobbs Ferry on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church Monday 10am in Ardsley. Interment will be at Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, New York.
