Gloria C. Carson

Gloria Carson, a resident of Dobbs Ferry since 2001, died Sunday, October 3 at the age of 80. Gloria was born Gloria Colletta Kirk in Buffalo, New York on June 16, 1930 to William J. Kirk and Victoria Witowski. She graduated from Kensignton High School in Buffalo in 1948 and subsequently went to work for the New York Central Railroad as a keypunch operator. She married Harold E. Carson in 1958. After the birth of their first child, Gloria spent the next 25 years devoted to her family and community. The family moved from Buffalo to Bardonia, New York in 1966. During her years as a homemaker, Gloria was a Girl Scout troop leader, a Cub Scout den leader, and a volunteer at the senior citizen nutrition program at St. Anthony's Church in Nanuet. Gloria was especially known for her baking talents. Her hand-decorated birthday and special-occasion cakes were always eagerly anticipated by family and friends, and she received numerous baking commissions as a result, which also kept her busy during her years at home with her children. In 1985, Gloria returned to working full-time as an accounts receivable clerk. She retired from Witco Chemical Corp. in 1995. Gloria is survived by her daughter, Maureen Carson, of Dobbs Ferry; her son, Kevin Carson, of Manasquan, New Jersey; her son-in-law Frank Wortner of Dobbs Ferry; her daughter-in-law Stephanie Carson of Manasquan, New Jersey; and her grandchildren, Patrick and Brendan Wortner of Dobbs Ferry as well as Abbey and Catherine Carson of Manasquan, New Jersey. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Harold, and her four sisters, Alice, Clara, Doris, and Joan. Visiting will be on Tuesday, October 5th, at the Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home in Dobbs Ferry from 2-4 and 7-9pm. A Mass of the Ressurection will take place at Our Lady of Pompeii Church on October 6th, 9:30am. Internment was at the St. Anthony's Church Cemetery in Nanuet. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
