Lewit, Elizabeth D. "BETTY MA LEWIT", 83 of Irvington died Nov.7, 2009. Born in Englewood, NJ, Betty has lived in Irvington for over 50 years. Betty married George A. Lewit on February 7, 1953 at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City. He predeceased her in 1987. Betty formed the Irvington Volunteer Ambulance Corps., which started operation on March 4, 1963. She was also a volunteer for the American Red Cross, Disaster Services, a Gray Lady at the VA Hospital in Montrose and a foster mother. Betty worked as an Administrative Assistant at Children's Village in Dobbs Ferry for over 20 years. Surviving Betty are her children Ellen Lewit, James Lewit, Peter Lewit, Andrew Lewit and Thomasdeceased along with two brothers John and James Margie Olson, three grandchildren Christina Rowell-Lewit, Marjorie Lewit and Susanna Lewit. Mass of the Resurrection Friday Nov. 13, 2009 10:00AM Church of the Transfiguration, Tarrytown. Visiting Wednesday and Thursday 2-4 & 7-9PM Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home.
