Michael G. Citarella , 84 a long-time resident of Dobbs Ferry, died on June 20, 2007 of cancer. Born in New York city January 1923, graduated from Fordham University January 1943 at age 20 Because of their wartime accelerated program, and promptly inducted into the U.S. Army, serving 31/2 years and discharged from the service in 1946.
Michael's field of lifetime work was in the wine industry where he was well regarded for his knowledge of wines. He retired from William Grant & Co. in 1994, then put his free time to good use as a volunteer teacher for Cabrini Immigrant services at 21 Cedar St. conversing in English with Japanese, Hispanic and other ethnic adults.
He was married to his wife of 56 years, Colleen nee Welch, father of six children all schooled in Dobbs Ferry: Peter of Boulder, CO, Catherine Brown of Pleasantville, Mary Citarella of NYC, Paul of Atlanta, Stephen of Charlotte, NC and Suzanne Alford of Southampton. He leaves behind 12 grandchildren and a brother, Joseph of Briarcliff Manor.
Michael's church for his 48 years in Dobbs Ferry was Sacred Heart Parish.
