Margaret Rose Honan, 96, a long time Irvington resident passed away peacefully on July 21, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. Margaret was born in Brooklyn, NY to Thomas and Catherine (Murphy) Barrett and lived in Forest Hills, Queens. Margaret met Joseph Patrick Honan on a catholic tour and on November 26, 1955, they married at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs in Forest Hills. Margaret began her career at First National City Bank in Manhattan. She later held several part-time local positions working with the elderly and children while raising her family. For many years Margaret worked in the Irvington School District as a bus monitor and as an aide. However, her most cherished and rewarding opportunity came when she worked with school children in the arts & crafts room at the Irvington Children's Center, a position she loved and held dear until she retired in her mid-80's. In addition to working with children, Margaret enjoyed family gatherings, living in the Village of Irvington, walking Main Street and talking with the local residents. She also enjoyed many summers in the Catskills and at the Jersey Shore, particularly, swimming in the Spring Lake salt water pool. Margaret had a beautiful smile many years after winning a local teenage beauty pageant. Margaret was a devout Catholic and parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church in Irvington. She was a former member of the Alter and Rosary Society and the Irvington Senior Center. Surviving is her son William Honan, daughter Colleen Honan and sisters Patricia Anderson and Joan Loughlin. Margaret was predeceased by her loving husband Joseph, brother, Thomas, her sisters Elizabeth Brakel, Catherine Barrett, Dorothy Paul, and Marion Murphy. Mass of the Resurrection Friday 10:00 A.M.
