George Callas

George Callas, 81, a native of Greece and a longtime resident of Hastings-on-Hudson passed away on August 1, 2020. Born and raised in Greece, he was the son of the late Demetrios and Eleni Kalaitzi. George came to the United States in 1963 after he met and married his first wife, Mary, in their home village of Litohoro, Greece. He came to this country in hopes for a better life and achieved the American Dream. George worked his way up from a dishwasher to a successful proprietor of a diner in Brooklyn. He was happily married to Mary for 43 years until they were parted by her death. George was fortunate enough to find love a second time, and is survived by his second wife, Fotini. He adored his home country of Greece and treasured the times he was able to visit and share his culture with others. George was a beloved husband, devoted father and loving grandfather; who will be greatly missed. He is survived by his children James (Valerie) Callas, Nicholas Callas and Elena (Michael) Rossano and grandchildren George Callas and Mary Rossano.
