Robert J. "Bip" Thombs, 67, of Irvington, passed away on March 30, 2017. Born in Yonkers to Wendell and Agnes Thombs. All his life Bip had a passion for the Hudson River. Most recently he was intrigued by the construction of the new TZ Bridge. Sadly, he will not see its completion. His service as a "jungle grunt" for the US Army, Americal Division in Vietnam, 1969-70 molded his character. Bip was a true hero. He served many years with the Irvington Volunteer Fire Department and retired as a Foreman from the Town of Greenburgh Highway Department in 2005. Bip is survived by his father, Wendell, daughter Lisa, Partner Debbie, brothers Richard and Michael and four nieces. He is predeceased by his mother Agnes and sister Patty.
