Thelma Buller

Thelma Buller of Ardsley, NY, passed away peacefully in her sleep Monday, September 23, 2016, surrounded by family. She was 82. She was the beloved wife of Bernard Buller, to whom she was married for 58 years, and the loving mother of Amy Smithgall of Wexford, PA, and her husband Thomas, David Buller of Madison, CT, and his wife Ellen, and Michael Buller and his wife Stacy of Barrington, RI. Born in New York City, and raised in Berwick, PA. She is survived by her brother Alan Fleishman, and his wife Ann of San Carlos, CA. After attending Penn State University, Thelma graduated from New York University. She later earned her Masters in Special Education from Fordham University. She was a passionate educator, and taught for more than 20 years, first as a Special Education Teacher and then as an Assistant Principal at several schools in the Bronx, NY, most notably IS144. She enjoyed playing tennis and bridge. An avid baseball fan she was faithful to her New York Mets. She loved her eight grandchildren fiercely and relished spending time with them. Their lives are richer for having her in it. Ben, Madeline, Will, Dylan, Jessica, Allison, Matthew and Noah will miss her dearly. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 25 at Edwards- Dowdle Funeral Home, Dobbs Ferry, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Phelps Hospice, Sleepy Hollow, NY.
