Marjorie Melling Hoopes Obituary

Marjorie Melling Hoopes, of Hastings-on-Hudson, formerly of Bronxville, died on June 20, 2005. Daughter of the late Janet and Herbert Melling, she was born Cheetham, Manchester, England, in 1908. She was educated in Canada; graduated from Evander Childs High School, and attended Barnard College in New York City. She worked for many years for IBM. She was predeceased by her husband Harold Dexter Hoopes, an artist. She is survived by a second cousin, Irene Bamford, of Barrie, Ontario Canada; her brother-in-law Professor Robert Hoopes, of Amherst, MA; her step-daughter Jean St. George, of Dobbs Ferry, NY; and her step-grandchildren: Wilhelmina Coldren, of Holland, MI; PJ Coldren, of St. Helens, MI; Dr. Andrew Szentgyorgyi, of Cambridge, MA; Dr. James Coldren, of Flossmore, IL; Thomas Szentgyorgyi, of Los Angeles, CA; and Carol Perry, of Arnold, MD and Alma-Ata, Kazakhstan. Marjorie had many gifts including those as an actress, a prize-winning artist, and a poet. A memorial service, followed by a reception, will be held at the Andrus Retirement Community in Hastings-on-Hudson, on Monday, July 25th, at 2 p.m. The family requests that contributions be made to the charity of your choice.
