Darrell Margaret Famble

Obituary of Darrell Famble Darrell Famble., also known to many people as "Dee Dee" was born in Charleston, South Carolina to the proud parents of the late Frank Jefferson Senior and Eloise Mosely on November 19, 1942. She was the eldest of three children. She is preceded in death by her brother Frank Jefferson Jr., Her daughter Sabrina H. Famble and her granddaughter Crystal T. Christopher. Darrell attended elementary school in South Carolina. The family relocated to New York City, in the 1950s. Settling in the borough of Manhattan, where she graduated from The High School of Fashion & Industries in 1962. Darrell was fortunate to obtain employment after completing high school as a seamstress in the garment district. She later changed careers working as a Traffic Agent (Meter Maid) for NYPD. She changed careers again working as a conductor on the number 6 line for the New York City Transit Authority. She often worked a second job at Comstat Security to support her family. Darrell retired from NYC transit after 30 years of service. Darrell enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking for them and teaching them how to cook. One of the ways that Darrell would show her affection toward you is by feeding you a southern style meal. She also took pleasure in taking care of and growing her indoor plants. Darrell loved listening to music and dancing. Her smile would light up a room. Darrell had strength and courage many of us strive to have within ourselves. She would give to others without hesitation. She was a giver. A giver of love, nourishment, wisdom and so much more. She would say to us whenever we were going through something "pray.. you need to pray. God will hear you. He will answer your prayers." She made us realize that no matter what, God would hear our voice and everything would be better. We know Darrell will hear us too. Her hugs were warm & unbreakable. It felt like she would never let you go. She would go above and beyond for family, friends and even strangers. She often would give food and bottles she saved to the homeless people near the recycling shack next to Western Beef in the Bronx. Her spirit was so warm and welcoming that she would converse with friends, or even strangers for hours. She seemed to know everyone and everyone knew her. Anytime you needed her, she was there. We will cherish the beloved moments we shared with her forever. Darrell touched many hearts and lives. She will be missed dearly. She leaves behind her son Dexter Famble, (Stacy); daughter Elizabeth Hassell- Ringgold (Roderick); Granddaughters, Keosha Famble, Ne'Gene Oates, Re'Gene Oates, Kya Ringgold; sisters, Francena James; Kim Jefferson and a host of grandchildren. Acknowledgements On behalf of the family, we would like to say thank you for your prayers, love and support. We would especially like to thank Pastor James Hassell & First Lady Alonda Hassell for their love and support. Poem: I Am Free Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free, I'm following the path God laid for me. I took his hand when I heard his call, I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day, To laugh, to love, to work, to play. Tasks left undone must stay that way, I've found that peace at the close of the day. If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joy. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, Ah yes, these things I too will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow, I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My Life's been full, I savoured much, Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch, Perhaps my time seemed all too brief, Don't lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your heart and share with me, God wanted me now, He set me free.
