John T. Macca, Sr. a longtime Irvington resident born on June 11, 1937 in Jamaica, New York, passed on January 13, 2019, in Pompano Beach, Florida. He graduated from Saint Agnes in Rockville Center Long Island, 1956; Ithaca College School of PT, 1960; and NYU Public Administrative Heath Policy Planning and Administration, 1975. Mr. Macca was a Staff PT and Supervisor PT at Burke Rehabilitation Center in White Plains, NY, and at Fordham Hospital in the Bronx. He was an Assistant Administrator at Fordham Hospital/ Misericordia/ Lincoln Affiliations. As CEO of Dobbs Ferry Hospital from 1978 to 1988, he oversaw the building of a new community hospital. In 1988 he became a Consultant Physical Therapist at the VNS in the Bronx. He served on the New York BOE from 1988-1989. Mr. Macca was very active in the community. He was a member of the Congress of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He was part of the APTA, serving as a delegate and advisor. He was also on the Board of Trustees at Dobbs Ferry Hospital. Mr. Macca was involved with the National MS Society, the Irvington Drug Abuse Council, the Hudson Valley Cancer Society, the Tri-Village Rotary Society, and US Congressman Geillman's Advisory Committee on Health care. He was a Coordinator and Coach at the New York State Games for the Physically Challenged. Mr. Macca received the Dobbs Ferry Hospital Outstanding Service Award, the APTA Outstanding Service Award, the New York NYCBOE District Nine Outstanding Youth Service Award, a Special Congressional Recognition for Outstanding Service to the Community, the Paul Harris Award (Rotary), and the Dobbs Ferry Hospitals Lifetime Achievement Award. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors at Mount Hope Cemetery. Mr. Macca was a United States Army Medic in 1967. Mr. Macca is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nancy Lou Macca, his son David (Amy), Daniel (Karren), John (Shana), and his six grandchildren David, Christopher, Taylor, Jack, Sophia, and Daniel. He is also survived by his two sisters, Anne Killion and Mary Healy, and their families.
