They grew up on humble means and were close as a family. Janet enjoyed the fishing trips with her dad. The walk to Lake Michigan from their home allowed them time to talk and form a close bond with her dad.

Janet graduated from Rufus King High School, after graduation she worked at Simple Shoes for over 18 years until they closed down. She then drove school bus until she retired.

Janet grew up as a Presbyterian where she was a Sunday school teacher because of her love for children. However, as Janet described that her life changed when she met Jehovah’s witnesses, Ralph and Hazel Lindim. Janet always had a lot of burning questions. One of them being, what would happen to her if she died tomorrow? When they answered that question from the Bible she asked to study the Bible right away because she recognized that this was bible truth. On October 22, 1955 at the age of 25 years old, in symbol of her dedication to serve Jehovah God for the rest of her life, Janet was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. This most important step in her life brought her great joy and happiness.

Janet loved her God, Jehovah, cherished the truth from God’s Word, the Bible and because of her love for people she spent the next 67 years of her life sharing with persons about Jehovah’s promises for the earth. If they had a pulse, Janet shared Jehovah’s promises from the Bible, that included all the healthcare providers she came in contact with. Throughout those years she met and changed the lives of many persons.

Janet always had a welcoming and friendly smile and always had a pleasant disposition. In her spare time, she enjoyed writing poems. She would write poems about animals, people, the Bible and life in general which she loved to share with everyone. Janet was affectionately known as the “candy lady” and loved sharing jokes, riddles and songs especially with the young ones she so affectionately loved. She would enjoy the company of the young ones when she would go door-to-door talking about the Bible. Janet was loved and will be missed by many.
