Gary Dale Bosserman

Gary Dale Bosserman, age 72 of Vinton, VA., passed away unexpectedly at home on Aug 1st, 2022. He was preceded in death by parents Hansford and Ernestine Bosserman, and brother Ronald Bosserman, all of Staunton, VA. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Linda Baughan Bosserman, son Brian Wayne Bosserman of Raleigh, NC, his special 4-legged buddy Abby, Uncle Bill Brooks of Frederick, MD, in-laws Steve and Marcia Baughan of Silver Spring, MD., Bruce and Martha Pelish of Vinton, VA., and many cousins, nieces and nephews scattered everywhere.<br><br>Gary grew up in Staunton VA., where he graduated from Robert E Lee High School in 1969. During his teenage years and most of his 20’s, he did speed roller skating and traveled up and down the East Coast for skating meets and won many titles over the years. He also excelled in volleyball, softball, and racquetball. He worked at Staunton Foods for 40 years, starting in the warehouse and working his way up to Operations Manager.<br>After retiring, Gary worked part-time as a Security Guard at the Roanoke City Market Building, and then at the Taubman Museum of Roanoke.<br><br>Gary and Linda continued to play competitive racquetball, winning many tournaments over the years. He made so many lifelong friends on the courts, in both Roanoke and Staunton. Sometimes he had some unconventional shots, and the term “Bosserize” his opponent was born. He especially enjoyed meeting his racquetball buddies for lunch on Sundays. He called it “the round table” where they solved all the world problems and shared many laughs together.<br><br>Gary and Linda decided in the early 2000’s to take up motorcycle riding. They joined the Roanoke Valley Harley Owners Group and have made life-long friendships there, as well. Gary loved riding his motorcycle with all his friends. He especially looked forward to hanging out at the dealership on Saturday mornings where he shared fellowship over coffee and donuts and also solved the world’s problems with tons of laughter.<br><br>Gary was a genuine person who would go above and beyond for others. He treasured all of his friends, in any walk of life. He was the world’s biggest dog lover and they loved him back. Over the years, Princess, Shannon, Molly, and Abby would stay by his side, never letting him out of their sight.<br>Gary was the first to laugh at himself, but didn’t pass up an opportunity to give others a hard time (in fun). He had a great sense of humor and could keep a straight face when trying to fool others. Gary touched a lot of lives, and will be greatly missed.<br><br>Family will receive visitors at Oakey’s Funeral Home in Vinton on Wednesday, Aug 10th, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, and also on Thursday, Aug 11th, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, one hour before the service. A Celebration of Life will be Aug 11th at 2:00 pm at Oakey’s in Vinton.<br><br>The family would love for you to share your memories of Gary at his memorial service.
