Joan G. Christy Obituary

Joan Christy, of Jamesville, passed away peacefully on July 31, just 15 days shy of her 92nd birthday. She was born in Syracuse, NY in 1930 to the late Walter and Wanda (Gryziec) Giemza.

She completed Onondaga Valley High School and went on to graduate in the first class of LeMoyne College, at age 20. Joan received her Bachelor's degree in Accounting and worked at Bristol Laboratories in Syracuse. Later she received her Master's degree in Education from S.U. She began teaching at Fabius-Pompey Elementary School, and continued her career at Jamesville Elementary, before retiring in 1991.

Joan was a woman of faith, who loved the Lord, and was a communicant of Our Lady of Hope Church. Along with her Catholic faith, she truly loved her family. She was married in St. Mary's Church in Jamesville in 1955, and was blessed in marriage for 60 years. Joan and her family enjoyed many wonderful times creating memories at their camp in Old Forge.

She is predeceased by: her husband, James M. Christy; brother, Walter "Chip" Giemza; and sister, Christine Giemza Snyder. Surviving are: daughters, Catherine (James) Wolf; Mary (Clifford) Farrell; Regina (Robert) Chamberlin; sons, Joseph and John Christy; grandchildren: Sarah Wolf (Paul) Brennan, Rebecca Wolf (Michael) Chamberlin, Andrew and Benjamin Farrell, Wyatt Christy, Leah, John, and Daniel Chamberlin; great grandchildren: Isaiah Chamberlin, Connor Brennan, James Chamberlin; a sister, Alice (Henry) Streiff; many beloved nieces; nephews; and friends.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday August 4 from 4 pm to 7 pm at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, LaFayette, NY. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, August 5, at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Hope Church, 4845 S. Salina St., Syracuse. Burial will take place on Saturday August 6 at 11 am at Riverview Cemetery on William St. in Old Forge, NY.
