Obituary

Daniel W. Poor, Jr. Daniel W. Poor, Jr., 95, husband of Elizabeth (VanBlarcom) Poor, longtime resident of Candlewood Road, Ipswich, died Saturday, May 22, 2010 in the Stephen Caldwell Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Ipswich following his long illness. Born in Peabody, June 30, 1914 son of the late Daniel W. and Oda C. (Ware) Poor, he was raised in Peabody, a graduate of Peabody High School Class of 1932. He attended Dartmouth College, receiving his B.A. in Economics in 1936. Mr. Poor had been employed as an accounting financial administrator at Sylvania Electric - GTE in Ipswich, Salem and Danvers from which he retired in 1977 after forty-three years of employment. During the 1950's he served on the Ipswich Finance Committee and was a Trustee of the Ipswich Public Library. He was also a member of the Wenham Country Club and a fifty-year member of the John T. Heard Masonic Lodge, AF&AM of Ipswich. He enjoyed his free time golfing, and deer and upland bird hunting. In addition to his wife of sixty-nine years he is survived by a son, Richard F. Poor of Ipswich; a daughter, Judith McDougal and her husband Norman of Pepperell and many nephews and nieces. He was the brother of the late Helen Poor Kinnear formerly of Santa Barbara, CA. Private arrangements are under the direction of the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home of Ipswich.
