On Tuesday, July 26, 2022, in the city of New Haven, CT, Serena M. Spruill transitioned at the age of 68.  She was born at Grace Hospital on May 17, 1954.  She was the daughter of the late Jasper Edwards, Sr. of La Grange, NC and Annie Mae Edwards of Swift Creek, NC.  

Serena attended New Haven Public Schools, including the once popular, Lee High School and High School in the Community.  She attained her Associate degree from Gateway Community College and accomplished her lifelong goal of receiving her official Gourmet credentials from Natural Gourmet Institute of New York.  For over a decade, Serena provided peer support services within the Mental Health Division at CMHC.  She also studied nursing, working for Fair Haven Community Health Center, and provided skilled private duty nursing.  

Serena leaves to cherish her memory, children, Monique Edwards, Tijae D. (Anna) Spruill, Milo R. Spruill, Tasi S. Spruill, and Candice G. Spruill; beloved siblings, Lilian T. Howard, Larry Cannon Edwards, Lenard Paul Edwards, Jesse Lee Edwards aka Salim Saafir, Charlie Edwards, Anthony Randolph Edwards, Benjamin Knight, Dawn Knight, and David Knight; and a great host of grand and great-grandchildren, extended family, friends, co-workers, and community pillars.  She has now joined her beloved deceased siblings, Jasper Edwards Jr., Annie Faye Edwards, Horace Ray Edwards aka Buddy, and gifted seamstress Susan Stuckey.
