Phyllis Bursey Obituary

 July 27, 1933- July 30, 2022

It is with great sorrow but sincere gratitude that the family of Phyllis Bursey announce her passing at the age of 89.

Pre-deceased by her husband Roy and her granddaughter Erin; Father and mother Maxwell and Lillian Perry; sisters Lillian Vardy, Marjorie Rees, Florence ‘Doll’ Bennett, and Dorothy Werth; brothers Gordon Perry and Merle Perry.

Left to remember and forever love her: longtime partner and special friend James B. Cole; children Glenn Bursey (Jackie), Desiree Lane (Nick), Debbie Bursey (Carlos Rivera), Philip Bursey (Jacqueline), and Pamela Bursey (Scott Fitzgerald); brother Bruce Perry; grandchildren Andrew Bursey (Denika), Colin Bursey (Brooke), Stuart Bursey (Jenna), Adam Bursey, Eliza Bursey, Marcela Rivera (Matthew and baby Julian), Alex Rivera, Grace Fitzgerald, Clark Fitzgerald and great grandson Nolan Bursey; special friends and sisters-in-law Mona Greenwood, Shirley Bursey, Helen Perry, and Sue Bursey; and a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends.

While our sadness is profound, we are eternally grateful to have had the love of such a vibrant, kind, and generous person in all our lives.

Phyllis approached everything with a fun filled exuberance and love of life; a big smile on her face and laughter in her voice. Her energy meant that no matter what was going on, she was in with both feet while the rest of us followed her lead.

She had a sweetness that was so sincere, but she was tough too. She fought through several health scares and always beat the odds. And don’t even think of disparaging someone she loved. She’d take you on in a heartbeat; always the defender.

So while it may be time to hang up the pruning shears, the dancing shoes, and the rollerblades; to put away the knitting needles, the books, the card games, and the passport; the example she set for us all will endure in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Phyllis's gift was making everyone feel special and uniquely loved. We will miss her dearly.

In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Funeral service will take place on Thursday August 18th at 11:00am at George Street United Church with interment to follow at Mount Plesant Cemetery. A celebration of her life will be held at the Seniors Center at 10 Bennett Avenue, St. John's from 2:30pm-5:00pm
