Debra "Debbie" Buckmaster

Debra (“Debbie”) Buckmaster, 65, of Littleton, CO, passed away on July 26, 2022, after a three-year battle with colon cancer. Debbie was born to Shirley and Lawrence “Bus” Powell in Spokane, WA, on April 24, 1957. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister and is survived by her husband of forty-five years (Richard “Buck”), her daughter Victoria, and her two grandchildren. Over the course of over thirty years, Debbie held various roles that supported her desire to develop and provide advocacy services for victims of violence and crime. She began this career as a teacher’s aide for the Spokane County Juvenile Court and after relocating to Denver in 1988 she began working at Gateway, a shelter for victims of domestic violence, as a Women’s Counselor. Beginning in 1994 Debbie worked with various agencies as coordinator and program director advocating for victims of domestic violence. In May 2022, Debbie retired after a 16 year long career with the 18th Judicial District as a Probation Officer. Debbie acted as a liaison between victims, probation, prosecution, law enforcement and other victim service agencies and was recognized for her dedication in 2017 at the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Colorado Law Enforcement Recognition Event. Debbie was the first Probation Officer in Colorado history to receive this award. Debbie’s greatest love however was her grandchildren. She enjoyed “Monday Fundays”, Sunday night movie nights, watching her granddaughter play soccer and playing at the park Debbie also enjoyed traveling to the beach, spending time with friends and family, and watching the Colorado Rockies. Debbie was a supportive wife, incredible mother, devoted grandmother, and true friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A funeral Mass is scheduled for Tuesday August 9, 2022 at 10:30am at St. Frances Cabrini Roman Catholic Church In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gateway Shelter, P.O. Box 914, Aurora, CO 80040.
